Why this reframing mattered so much

Earlier targeted nucleases (ZFNs, TALENs) re-engineer a protein for each target — slow and hard. The conceptual shift here is moving targeting into a short, cheap RNA guide while keeping one fixed protein (Cas9). That's what made genome editing accessible to ordinary labs almost overnight.
