Explaining FDR to a non-statistician in one sentence

WEweizh· 4 days ago

FWER asks 'what's the chance I make even one false discovery?'. FDR asks 'of the things I call discoveries, what fraction are false, on average?'. When you're generating a candidate list to follow up — genes, features, signals — the second question is usually the one you actually care about.
