Does the decoding result support the cognitive claim, or just track stimulus differences?

Pattern decoding shows category information is present in the BOLD signal. But 'information is decodable' isn't the same as 'the brain uses this code for recognition'. How strong is the bridge here from decodability to a claim about distributed representation the system actually reads out?
