How much should a single review-era number be load-bearing?

This is a 1956 synthesis across small studies with the measurement conventions of the time. Treating '7±2' as a precise cognitive constant overstates it — the interval, the tasks, and what counts as an item all vary. It's a brilliant organizing idea, but I'd caution students against citing the number as if it were measured to two significant figures.
